The short answer: energy first, injection second—when same-day treatment is suitable

If a physician decides that Ultherapy Prime and Skin Botox can be performed in one visit, the evidence-supported order is to complete microfocused ultrasound with visualization first and inject botulinum toxin afterward. This avoids sending focused ultrasound through sites that have just received toxin. It does not mean that every patient, facial area or itinerary is suitable for both on the same day.

Skin Botox is a Korean treatment term for shallow, distributed botulinum-toxin injections used for skin-quality concerns. It is not a separate toxin molecule, and it is not the same plan as targeted intramuscular treatment for expression lines. The exact product, dilution, units, layer and facial area still matter.

The current Ultherapy Prime instructions do not provide one universal waiting interval for botulinum toxin. The most useful question is therefore not simply ‘How many days?’ but ‘Which product, layer and area were treated, and would the proposed ultrasound map overlap them?’

What the 2025 randomized study actually found

A 2025 randomized controlled study enrolled 15 subjects and placed intradermal botulinum toxin type A at four forehead sites. The sites then received no microfocused ultrasound or a superficial 1.5 mm MFU-V treatment immediately, after 7 days or after 14 days. On day 28, researchers measured the anhidrotic area with an iodine-starch sweat test.

The mean anhidrotic area was 1.10 cm² at control sites, compared with 0.74 cm² after immediate MFU-V, 0.90 cm² after 7 days and 0.93 cm² after 14 days. Each ultrasound-treated group was statistically smaller than the control. The authors concluded that superficial MFU-V reduced the measured effect of intradermal toxin under these conditions, especially within two weeks, and recommended avoiding MFU-V for at least two weeks after injection while calling for further research.

That finding supports a practical sequence—ultrasound before toxin—but it is not proof that every cosmetic result will change by the same amount. The study measured sweat suppression at small test sites, not wrinkle reduction, pore appearance, facial lifting or patient satisfaction.

  • Small study: 15 subjects, so rare events and every facial anatomy were not tested.
  • Specific setup: intradermal forehead toxin followed by a superficial 1.5 mm transducer.
  • Specific endpoint: anhidrotic area on day 28, not a full-face aesthetic score.
  • The toxin product, dilution, units and injection pattern cannot be generalized to every clinic plan.

Why earlier combination evidence still matters

A 2016 expert consensus on microfocused ultrasound, botulinum toxin and fillers recommended performing MFU-V before injectable products when selected treatments occur on the same day. The panel also suggested that separating consecutive treatments by one to two weeks can allow side effects to settle and results to be assessed. Expert consensus guides planning; it does not create a product-label rule for everyone.

A separate retrospective review included 101 people treated with MFU-V and selected injectables within six months; 18% received incobotulinumtoxinA. Seven adverse events were recorded across the cohort, including bruising, swelling, paresthesia and one herpes outbreak. Because the review combined different products, areas and intervals, it cannot prove the best order or exclude rare risks.

A 2025 literature review of botulinum toxin with energy-based devices found that most close-timing studies did not show reduced toxin efficacy, while highlighting HIFU and fractional RF microneedling as exceptions requiring more caution. The practical lesson is to identify the exact energy device rather than applying one timing rule to every laser, RF and ultrasound treatment.

Ultherapy imaging does not replace a Skin Botox record

Ultherapy Prime uses real-time ultrasound imaging to visualize dermal and subdermal tissue, confirm coupling and select an appropriate treatment depth. That screen is designed to support focused-ultrasound delivery; it is not a toxin detector and cannot reconstruct an undocumented injection map.

Bring the product name, injection date, total units, dilution when available, facial areas and whether the plan was intradermal or intramuscular. If another clinic performed the injection, request the chart or treatment diagram rather than relying on a package name such as ‘full face’ or ‘micro Botox.’

When a doctor may separate the appointments

A physician may separate or postpone the treatments when the product or injection map is unknown, the skin is inflamed or infected, a previous toxin reaction is unresolved, the proposed ultrasound area overlaps a fresh intradermal treatment, or a short itinerary leaves no realistic follow-up route. More treatments in one visit are not automatically a better plan.

Expected Ultherapy reactions can include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising and altered sensation. Skin Botox can also cause bruising, headache, asymmetry, unintended expression change, eyelid droop, swallowing discomfort or weakness in nearby muscles. Individual products and medical histories change the risk discussion.

Seek urgent medical help for breathing or swallowing difficulty, rapidly progressive weakness, loss of consciousness or another severe systemic symptom. Online timing advice cannot assess these events or replace examination by a qualified clinician.

A Seoul consultation checklist for international visitors

Tell the clinic whether you want lifting, expression-line treatment or a skin-quality plan. Those are different goals, and a combined quote should not blur them into one unnamed package.

Ask the doctor to mark which areas receive Ultherapy Prime and which receive intradermal or intramuscular toxin. If same-day treatment is proposed, confirm that ultrasound is completed first and ask what follow-up is available after you leave Korea.

Leave room before an event or long-haul flight for swelling, bruising or asymmetry to become visible. A rushed departure does not change tissue recovery or make an uncertain overlap safer.

  • Exact toxin product, units, dilution, layer and facial areas
  • Ultherapy transducers, treatment depths, mapped regions and line plan
  • Order of procedures if both occur on the same day
  • Event and flight dates plus an after-hours and overseas follow-up route
07

How to compare a combined quote honestly

This guide does not compare prices because an Ultherapy-and-Skin-Botox plan cannot be matched fairly without the exact toxin product, units, dilution, area and layer plus the Ultherapy map, transducers, line count, clinician, VAT and follow-up. It makes no claim that Seoul is cheaper.

Ask for separate written entries for the device treatment and injectable treatment. The toxin units of different products are not interchangeable, and a package volume does not reveal how many biological units were used.

A transparent plan may recommend Ultherapy first and toxin later, both in one visit with energy first, only one treatment, or neither. The consultation should preserve all four options.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you book

Which comes first, Ultherapy Prime or Skin Botox?

When a physician selects same-day treatment, current evidence and expert consensus support completing Ultherapy Prime before injecting Skin Botox. This order does not make every same-day plan suitable.

Should I wait two weeks after Skin Botox before Ultherapy?

A small 2025 study found that superficial MFU-V reduced a sweat-response measure when applied immediately, 7 days or 14 days after intradermal botulinum toxin, and its authors recommended avoiding MFU-V for at least two weeks after injection. That study does not establish one universal interval for every product, dose, area or treatment depth, so your doctor must review the exact plan.

Does Ultherapy make Skin Botox wear off faster?

The 2025 study found a smaller anhidrotic area at ultrasound-treated intradermal test sites, but it did not measure full-face wrinkle improvement or prove how every toxin product behaves. It supports cautious sequencing rather than a guaranteed wear-off claim.

Can Ultherapy and Skin Botox be done on the same day?

Selected patients may receive both in one visit, generally with focused ultrasound first and toxin afterward. Product, treatment layer, facial area, medical history, recovery plan and follow-up still determine whether same-day treatment is appropriate.

Is Skin Botox the same as regular muscle Botox?

No. Skin Botox usually describes shallow, distributed intradermal injections for skin-quality concerns, while regular expression-line treatment targets selected muscles. The product, biological units, dilution, depth and risks must be documented for either plan.
