Botox is a brand name; the treatment is botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin products are prescription medicines that reduce signaling between a nerve and a selected muscle. In cosmetic care, the aim is usually to soften movement that contributes to expression lines or to reduce the pull or bulk of a specific muscle.
Botox, Xeomin, Dysport and other products are not interchangeable by a simple unit conversion. Each product has its own formulation, labeling and potency assay. A quote only makes sense when it names the product, area, dose and clinician.
The goal is not necessarily a motionless face. Placement and dose should be matched to your anatomy, baseline asymmetry and the expressions you want to preserve.
Wrinkle Botox, masseter Botox and skin Botox are different plans
Expression-line treatment is placed into selected muscles that create lines such as frown lines, forehead lines or crow’s feet. A masseter plan targets the jaw-closing muscle and may be discussed for muscle bulk or related symptoms after assessment.
Skin Botox usually describes a more superficial microdroplet pattern across a wider area. It is discussed for a refined skin finish, pores or fine texture rather than the same deep-muscle effect as a standard wrinkle injection.
These names are useful shorthand, not standardized recipes. The same number of units distributed across a face and neck is not equivalent to that dose placed into one strong muscle.
- Ask for the exact product name and total units.
- Confirm whether the quote is per area, per unit or for a fixed protocol.
- Share previous toxin dates, products, doses and any uneven response.
Timing, recovery and risks
Small raised bumps, redness, tenderness or bruising can occur at injection points. The effect is not immediate and it also wears off over time. Build enough margin before an important event for the result to settle and for a review if needed.
Possible unwanted effects include asymmetry, headache, dry eye, eyelid or brow droop and weakness in a nearby muscle. Botulinum toxin labels also carry a warning about distant spread of toxin effect; urgent medical attention is needed for problems with breathing, speaking or swallowing.
Tell the doctor about pregnancy or breastfeeding, infection near the planned injection site, neuromuscular conditions, previous reactions and medicines that may affect neuromuscular transmission.

The physician first assesses muscle strength, movement and asymmetry. The written plan should identify whether the target is a line, a deeper muscle or superficial skin texture so you are not comparing treatments that share only the word Botox.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you book
Is Botox the same as filler?
No. Botulinum toxin changes selected muscle activity; dermal filler places a material under the skin to change contour, support or fullness. They have different risks and cannot substitute for one another.
Is skin Botox the same as forehead Botox?
Not usually. Skin Botox describes a more superficial, distributed injection pattern, while forehead treatment targets specific muscles. Ask exactly where the product will be placed and why.
Can I compare units across brands?
No simple conversion is valid. Regulatory labels state that potency units are specific to each preparation and are not interchangeable across botulinum toxin products.
